Tommy Laster – Marine and Beirut Bombing Veteran
Jacksonville gathered to honor and remember the fallen heroes from the Beirut bombing on October 23rd, 1983.
We met Tommy Laster a veteran and survivor of the Beirut bombing while visiting the Beirut Memorial. Mr. Laster is from Valdosta, GA and made the trip to Jacksonville with his brother John to honor the men who died. With tears in his eyes Mr. Laster told how he was on the top floor during the explosion and said Gods hand was on him and protected him. He said he didn’t know how he survived but God had other plans for his life.
Mr. Laster served in the Marines until 1989 and over the years has faced several medical problems including prostrate cancer. But his attitude is one of humility and thankfulness for the goodness of God. It was an honor to meet Mr. Laster and all of us at Jacksonviller Magazine are truly thankful and blessed by his service to the Marines and our country.
May God bless Mr. Laster as he continues to honor his country, and may the surviving families be proud of their real-life heroes who served their country faithfully.
